7 Health ātrendsā Iāve tried that actually have made a difference as a 27 year old
Thereās so much noise in the health and wellness industry and think those of us in our mid to late twenties who are trying to get our lives together are all feeling a little overwhelmed.
My best advice? Donāt try to do it all. Pick and choose the combination of things that works best for your lifestyle (you can always add new things later!!)
As one of those girlies who consumes an excessive amount of content in the hopes of improving my overall wellness, here are the top ten things Iāve introduced into my routine that I think actually make a difference.
Part 1: Fitness š
The rumours are true: movement really is medicine. And itās actually really important for us girls to incorporate a wide variety of movement.
These have been the biggest game changers for me for my personal fitness:
1. Morning walks
Image sourced from Pinterest
Iām not exaggerating when I say that morning walks have changed my life. Not only have they done wonders for my mental health but they help me get my steps started early so I have time for other fitness activities later in the day. They also do wonders for your sleep schedule because you see the sun first thing!!
Bonus: wear 2 lb ankle weights and really get your heart rate up š
2. Weight lifting
If youāre not incorporating resistance training into your routine, itās time to start. Itās so important for long term health (particularly for bone health, balance later in life, and overall longevity) and it also has amazing benefits for your metabolism, mental wellbeing, and more. You donāt need to be doing crazy lifts, but get some resistance in when you can.
Personally, I follow a program on the Evolve You app! Would recommend if you like to have a game plan for when you arrive at the gym
3. Pilates is not overrated
Pilates can be priceyyy, especially if youāre partial to the reformer (like me). But incorporating it into my routine helps me feel well rounded in all the areas that Iām targeting.
If the price point is really a miss for you, donāt worry! You can do the same moves from the reformer in mat Pilates at home with the right equipment. Iād recommend following @misha_culver on Instagram for more on this!
Part 2: Supplements & sleep š“ š
4. Creatine
Girlies!! We are taking creatine in 2025!!
You have to take this one daily to have a true impact, but it tastes like nothing and can be added to your morning water (or greens!)
You should do your own research before starting, but it has done wonders for my fitness performance and overall energy. 10/10 would recommend to a friend (aka you).
5. Collagen
TBH until recently I thought collagen was basically a hoax, but Iām here to eat my words and tell you itās been a game changer for me. My nails and hair are the only evidence a girl needs. Period.
Two scoops added to my daily greens and creatine mix and Iām good to go!!
6. Zinc and magnesium L-Threonate š“
Ahh. My favourite sleep cocktail. Take these a couple hours before bed and you can thank me later.
7. Sunrise alarm clock ā°
Before you skip past this one on account of saving money ā you donāt need the Hatch. I got mine off Amazon for about $50 and it works perfectly.
Letās be clear. I relied on my phone alarm for the last decade. But ever since I got my sunrise alarm clock I have been sleeping with my phone in another room (!!) this is a big deal for me. And my sleep thanks the clock for its service.
and thatās all for now! Thanks for reading my Substack and subscribe for more columns for the girls.
